Arjuna Thoughts: Episode 9 - Babies

Do you know that babies don't cry when they are born? They just moan a little to expell the liquid from the uterus. However the way hospitals give birth to babies under a strong light and culturaly a strong cry is proof of the babies health.

This is one of the strongest dialogs in this episode, where the way mothers are disconnected from the babies thought. When the baby try to communicate with the mother through dreams or feelings, a baby is really a soul being divided from the mother.

The funny thing is that the mother is usually feeling the same feelings that the baby, this is like a split personality and usually mothers experience heavy mood change.

The episode describes the way the babies decide when they are supposed to come to the world and even elect the place. This is pretty interesting since our culture and medicine is completely ignorant to this thoughts and also having a sressful delivery might propagate through out the person's life.

Great episode, this one another one that really caught my attention and have more relevance from this series.

Arjuna Thoughts: Episode 8 - Transcendental Meditation

Very related with my last post about Words and the way we could communicate. Arjuna is on a phone call and she sudenly transport herself in mind to Tokyo's room (tokyo is her bf). Usually this is what we called Transcendental meditation or consiousness, which is when a person leaves his body and presence itself in another location on a similar way we perceive memories.

Here is when Juna feels closest to Tokyo on the series but beyond that point is interesting acknowledging the option of a higher level of communication. It might sound corny but I have experience some type of connection, untangible connection with my gf also. Things that have no logical explenation except coinsidense.

Today my mom ask me a similar question around this topics. She ask me about the definition of metaphysics. I basically told her is something like untangible laws like magnetism, positive and negative energy and things that we can't perceive fully. I dumb it down relating it to as a weird science and something that we have very radical answers and very inacurate in itself and is usually tied to beliefs, religion and or esoterism. I have to recognize that I dont completely agree with that but I guess I felt something apropriate to mention at the moment.

Mo\' Jazz

So I will be the first one to admit that I don't know shit about Jazz. But it seems that at least I have good taste. The only artist I have come to recognize is really the only one I need to recognize acording to some Jazz experts.

His name is John Coltrane, which is really one of the single best artists of the new Jazz movement. With other artists then comming to my mind like Miles Davis and the eternal Duke Ellington, this is pretty much all my knowledge from Jazz.

This is one of the reasons I like last.fm, hopefully I could become more knowledable of all this great music that keeps being produced and which artist or song title can't really remember. The only thing I can trust is that when those notes start playing I will be able to know good stuff.

Arjuna Thoughts: Episode 8: Food

This is one of my most important episodes of the series actually this is the one that moved me really. I guess because as opposed to be about interpersonal relationship is really about world needs. About health, food, and birth process. Things that we can't deny and that usually serves as checkpoints that we need a difference.

If the most powerful nations reorganize the way we eat by reducing the levels of meat consumption we could erradicate world hunger.

What is important is that we need to know how much food is being wasted from the G8 everyday and how much could that feed. However this vision is simplistic, the issue goes beyond that into actual phisical distribution.

As transportation of goods becomes more efficient in the north hemisphere, is really distribution models what the sound lack on. Brazil has an enormous wealth on resources while Africa also has a strong resources the terrestial distribution is very very underdevelop.

So to pick up a flight from NY to London is way cheaper than fly from Rio to Ghana. This makes the price of whatever you want to take extremely expensive even if the resources are wasted in the first country.

Arjuna Thoughts: Episode 7 - Words

Recently I discover how YouTube start to become an interest way of watching anime that have been so strong and thought provoking. I recently found the series Arjuna which is one of the most though provoking anime series I have ever seen. The best thing is that I can show it to people and people can actually embrace that same experience at least to a higher level.

This episode is so powerful, the way that we communicate through words but at the same time we communicate in other ways like through art, numbers, and even communicate wtih other beings like earth itself.

Usually they say God talks through you through your enviroment, have access to your thoughts and how humans only use 10% of their brain and are so limited in regard to their through potential.

They mention that many people get trapped in the words, and words become what is holding us back.

Usually blind people have stronger sensorial sense because they have been limited by their sight, so if we were limited on our words would we develop other more higher levels to speak to god/earth/enviroment/people?

I confess... I am a liar

I have been thinking about our realness and fakeness when it comes to music. I often listen to an album and pick my favorites, but then MTV or whatever starts telling me which one I should like.

When the opposite happen, I am just looking for the hit dismissing the whole album.

This scenario is terribly destructive to the artist. Simply because the label choose a hit song, we will follow the trend ignoring our actual music preference.

Now I am talking about the microspace of an album, not generalizing to liking a trend or a singer. But an example right here...

Recently I have been listening to RJD2 which is a great group. However when I first listen to them I liked that song, but then I research on them and I have found which one is the good one, and ever since I have been conditionated to listen to that one and is soon becoming a favorite.

However is this just proving that I have no faith on my individual taste? Of course this is contradictory with my earlier post about trusting my musical taste.

Why I love YouTube

Through out the 90's I b-came really close to hip hop and pick up one of the greatest group ever The Wu-Tang Clan and it was no dissapointment.

I remember my first albums I got pick ed up was some singles like [track]Incarcerated Scarfaces[/track] - [track]Ice Cream[/track] from the OB4CL.

I didn´t knew the wu, nor raekwon nor ghost but I just put it on and could meet the grittiness I came to love for years after.

That was more than 12 years ago and I still love to hear that hypnotic beat and Meth yelling on his unique voice for this rap niggaz all up in your guts.

I love the sound, I got BET and I pick up some of the videos. I was impressed with [track]Cold World[/track] from GZA - Genius. However one thing I never came to see is the live presentations, this is where Youtube has recapture all that footage like the concert was live stream or like the video was just released.

I have had the chance to watch the video of that Incarcerated Scarfaces from the rooftop of the building and the live presentations such as this one.

Listening to Brazilian Jazz Bossa Nova

I have been looking to discover new music lately, and have been going to the more old school exotic Brazilian Jazz. So far I got some artists like Astrud Gilberto with The Girl From Ipanema which seems to have been interprate before by other cats such as Antônio Carlos Jobim.

Being so focus on american music sometimes people ignore the world out there. There is a lot of hip hop going on on other countries, famous groups such as Paraziti, DJ Tomekk, Diaz and Zabio.

However when it comes to music, I think that this language barriers no longer matter since the music alone usually can be appreciate whenever is Alicia Keys or a girl from Fiji island.

So far we seem to just be looking for the manifestation of the real world on the internet as opposed to looking for the internet to change our real world. When people get this, a true revolution might start.

Sayin\' Something

So I have start looking on other people's journal and unfortuantely most of my favorite artists are just mentioned in a huge list.

Not that there is anything wrong, just that is usually not the way I usually will talk about an artist.

So one of my favorite artists right now is Immortal Technique, who is a group that is pretty raw which I like to compare with Jedi Mind Tricks.

I personally was impressed with the overal vision of this group. They pretty much explain in details most of the issues not just from an american point of view but an international one. Very few americans know or understand the ramifications of the US actions world wide. Also the sentiment of a foreign power regulating their economy, freedom and technology.

Is also interesting having the american point of view which remind me of how Romans label the rest of the world barbarians. Same way that british label the natives in India, NZ and North America.

The american people might not have a racial difference but a nationality difference. Is funny how to see the usual american ignorance when it comes to geography and the clasic discussion about calling USA America where the rest of the continent calls america to the continent and US to the US.

Immortal Technique brings this sentiment and other even more dark about the so called anti-american sentiment, and also uncovers the acts done on the US's best interest. This group is by far more than just music.

It also remind me of a more underground Wu-Tang Clan and more to the point, RZA where he went on the racial vein and communicate the same sentiment but against the black race. [track]The Night the earth cry[/track] is a good example of the oppression exposed to lyrics that have make hip hop produce so much inspiration.

This why I love hip hop and I love listening to the nice flow but they can flow all they want but is nothing when they lack any actual message.

Adobe Suck Ass

Flash Player
Listening to one of my favorite podcasts called LinuxActionShow which mention one of the developers from Adobe to get Flash 9 running on Linux.

The post is a bunch of excuses about complexity and just that Linux is way too hard to get Flash 9 running on it. How could they find no hassles with the Mac OSX version?

there are some standard facilities and APIs that Windows and Mac operating systems provide to applications that Linux simply doesn't. To be sure, it's not that Linux can't do XYZ, it's that there are so many ways to do XYZ.

Maybe if he was more specific about what parts are those he can actually get this problems over it.

What exactly has to happened for Linux to make it compatible with Flash. I mean the compilers are the same on both OS, OSX and or Linux and Unix.

I like the fact that at least he is testing it on Gentoo so there aren't many changes to the source. However not providing with the information to fix the bugs, it just becomes a baby cry and castrating the linux community from getting an update to the extremely old Flash 7.

Using last.fm

So this week I start using my last.fm account, after listening to some interesting conference from the founder of last.fm.

So I have been listening to some of my favorite artist which some become local artists, I have notice that even if the input from your playlist happens in real time. There is really a weekly cycle which merges this numbers with your profile stats which means that the stats only reflect until your last week flavor.

So here are my last week playlist:

We need an entrepreneur forum

It seems that SoyEntrepreneur is passing by a great opportunity and users when it comes to launching their own company and networking to do business. Well another thing is that this is web 2.0 and many tools are available to stimulate this market and I am feeling a buzz about being the one that brings it.

SoyEntrepreneur answer is a bit strange to not say ridiculous, they recognized the success of the forums and the need for the reader community. However they make some arguments specifiying technical reasons and promoting solutions and products that they will happily sell to that audience.

It seems they discover it was a great networking tool and that they weren't cashing on this opportunity and they took it down. Another reason could be that they had some legal issue and they had to stop.

Making a forum about entreprenurship might be a fun thing to test and see how popular it becomes. Since there has been some lack of development on this part, making a webiste about entreprenurship might be a bit odd since I have been holding my horses for the longest. However I recognize there is a need and I know I can easily satisfy such so I am thinking about building a foropreneur.com which will bring networking solutions.

Updating the Company list

So we need to update the company list from openoffice.org I want to have a really cool script that will make it more manageable and easier to understand. So what I am looking for is to apply some AJAX to the list and actually make the company profiles stored in a real database as opposed of being just a big html page.

Using the server from openoffice-mexico.org it will be a good idea to have them work together and make OpenOffice.org a better site in itself.

So the idea is simple, first we will be having a map which will be some kind of bitmap. This bitmap will hold the flags from the different countries and will retrieve a query that will print the list of companies from each country. Once the list is up we will be able to click on it and retrieve the profile of the company.

MVC addiction

A few days ago I wanted to try several python frameworks but now I want to change my tune. I am basically triying to grip the development of mvc frameworks.

After Ruby on Rails addiction from the development community, we now have several MVC frameworks on different language. PHP now pulled out Symfony. Python has many but the one I have looked at are Django and TurboGears.

The greatest thing to come here is AJAX while I think is pure hype I have been following closely. I have been listening to one of the podcast called Ajaxian. Which has some nifty talks about the future of the AJAX development as well as XUL and other frameworks.

AJAX currently have some renowned frameworks, Scriptaculous, Mochikit and Dojo. Mochikit is the one included in Turbogears as well as some old folk I met when I wanted to learn the frameworks called CherryPy

So let see how far I get here, I hope I can get everything working by the time I get to quit again :)

Violence in Mexico

Today my dad start telling me about some events that went down on the weekend. The story sounds like taken out of some gangster movies or worst, drug lord movies. There seems to be some drug wars going on where there are some people that are being killed and other that are being protected.

Discovery Channel once ran a report about some big cartel where a big drug lord called "Heaven Lord" or Señor de los cielos became famous for mutilating parts of their captures and sending it with a ransom petition.

I am not sure if I am mixing two things here but they also mention about the right hand man was a guy called El Metro. The interesting part is that this guy is from Tabasco, and just a couple of years ago he was captured.

El Metro's nephew was killed last week on another mafia story where he was almost killed then rescued and lousily secured and during midnight the hospital was intruded and the guy was killed by 24 shots.

Now the story comes around the rescue of a couple of mafia people who were captured by the police. The department was surrounded by some black suburbans and people heavily armed start shooting at the police station. They failed and then they came wtih more firepower and high caliber weaponery such as bazooca´s granades etc.

The street became a war site and with high firepower shootout they failed rescuing the captured guy's. This seems is not the end and more stuff will be going on. The guys that were detained were sent to Mexico City and it seems there will be a lot of things going on in the future.

Recording Linux tips

Listening to LinuxReality Podcast the cast ask for Linux tips. Soon I thought I have like 10 Linux tips, but giving better thought, I start realizing that using a new app is not necessarily a tip. Using the app better is a Linux Tips.

However like Linus said, nobody uses the operating system, so what would be an operating system tip? Having a partition setup, dealing with udev or devfs or managing users and bash might be a Linux tips. However, how newbie should it be a newbie to understand and make this tips work for him. I think that to make it simple and stupid I should stay away from Linux and apps.

Linux Apps is what newbies work on, desktop, file management, file launching, theming, and keystroke. KDE, GNOME, XFCE where to start? Maybe all of them :D

The Why campaing habla Español

OpenOffice.org marketing community has been very busy generating yet a new campaing. The "Take a Test Drive - Keep the Car!" campaing focus on the recent MS 2007 test drive. With OOo you not just take a test drive but also keep the 'car'.

Now we need to spread the content into the different languages. Here is where the native lang communities such as OOo ES to step up and translate the campaign which since we have a different semantics a test drive might not fit well in spanish so some creativity opportunities might come out of the community.

With the new development going on with the new generations of Office suites, OpenOffice.org Marketing is really maturing and becoming better organized. I am glad to see the new development comming up.

Bancanet in Firefox

So going on with my adventures in the third world aka as mexico. I am now triying to deal with mexican banks and how to merge a service like Paypal and speak with my mexican accounts. I am still in the process and this is one key process on how to live with Linux in Mexico.

The bank system is clueless about Linux or any other OS other than Winbugs, that means Macintosh, Opera and Firefox browsers are just not even in the map.

Bancanet runs on a BEA Logic portal system which authenticate only to netscape and ie which leaves all PDA-OSX-Linux users out in the cold.

Firefox being the most widely use browser out there, has also bloggers doing their job and making recepies on how to hack Firefox to work with BancaNet.

I choose Alonso from dan-alonso.org on how to make this work with firefox.

Go to about:config and insert the option general.useragent.override which is the string of the browser to be able to work with the identification route. Then insert the value that will be compatible with Netscape 7.1 (not Mozilla).

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040210 Netscape/7.1" Para que parezca Netscape/7.1

Having this might make your Linux processor fall to it's knee but at least will work for the 5 min a month you might use it.

Programmer sites

Is interesting to participate in a programmer community. Not a product or project site but a programmer community. This feels different since you are not working toward one goal but you feel everyone moving to different goals simultaneously.

I have discover some sites like El Rincon de C whic is exactly that. A programmer site for C programmers, yet the C / C++ language are used on a platora of different products, compilers, IDE etc.

There is also no best enviroment so usually people use the tools they like the best and there is less convincing focus to switch and rather to debug.

Compared to a Linux community where everyone is pushing their distro, apps, code, framework, api, etc. This one is more agnostic and also very supportive. Since the C language is rarely taught in college nowadays, being a C guru helps a lot and usually is great to talk to this people.

Permission Mess at Home

On friday we had a big storm and the result was my AC with no power. This also caused my desktop to get a corrupted root partition. The corrupted root partition was under xfs and I was too laizy to try to restore it and result into a installation spree.

I already got my installation but somwhere in the process my users got messed up services. Today I finally fix it but it was tricky.

So the problem was the following, I have my home directory with 3 users however the folders were under a different owner/group and doing chown/chgrp will solve it partially since it will just affect the regular folders but in linux we got some hidden folders that start with a .folder/ and this folders will have some files and so on.

This could be solved by doing the recursive flag '-R' however when you combine this with an asterisk '*' this make the recursive go and write not just the current files but also up the tree back to /home/ and even root directory.

To solve it, I have to take rid of the asterisk and start managing this from the /home/ folder. Eliminating the asterisk it solve the problem since it wont go up the tree when I put the dot before the asterisk.

The final command looks something like this:
chown user -R /home/user/
