OOo NY Ad gets pimped

So I saw the OOo new york ad campaign and it looks promising however the add looked really awful. It seems some designers have stepped in and finally we got a good Mockup of the design.

However I was a bit confused why some people didn't took the idea of cooperating to this campaign because it wasn't done on their country.

The problem with this is that it divides the community efforts for other divisions that are not so important.

LinuxAction Show

So the Linux podcasts have started to grow more. The Linux Action show is a new podcast that seem to focus on Linux news. Which is a bit a disapointment since we still waiting a podcast that dedicate itself to the actual use of Linux on the desktop rather that commenting linux-related world events.

Specially since most of this events can't hardly be used for anything.

I haven't seen anything new from other promising podcasts line the source code which was a video podcast that look really promising. The best part was that they show the actual code and way to do things.

Paypal in Mexico

So paypal is a very famous site, however Paypal is not that known in mexico and the worst part is that is hard to actually get a support envioroment to do transactions. Even on google is hard to get Paypal documentation for Mexico.

Mexican banks such as Bancomer, Banamex, HSBC and Scotiabank know virtually nothing about Paypal and they can't provide any type of support.

Paypal also has no knowledge of Mexican banks and they can't recomend anything. Paypal Mexico basically doesnt exist and paypal integration around countries also doesn't work.

The main problem is that I can't add funds to the paypal account. Looking around i found a good discussion about Paypal in Mexico however something happened that I got completly lost and couldnt execute as I thought.

I wll keep googling for the information.

Cedric\'s update on OOoEclipse

Cedric Bosdonnat has just give an update on his project to integrate OOo's UNO framework with the popular developer platform, Eclipse.

Cedric mentions on his blog about OOoEclipseIntegration 1.0.3 has some improved documentation, better JavaDoc extensability and also an internal model refactoring.

Cedric writes:
Now you can create a new UNO project using a URE instance, the type browser will show you only the URE types and in a future version you will be able to create a new URE application and run it.

You can download the plugin from his site at: http://cedric.bosdonnat.free.fr/ooeclipseintegration/

Migration Tutorials

Lately I have seen a lot of Linux magazines... ok I saw it on TUX magazine and Linux Reality about people asking for tutorails that actually migrate from Windows to Linux. Meaning that explains the way you do it on windows and the way you do it on Linux.

For example I will do a small tutorial to do the thing people do on Windows and then on Linux.

Windows Ways

  • Go to Control Panel

  • Click on User Accounts

  • Activate a New User

  • Specify the Priviledge

On Linux (with LinuxConf):

  • Go to LinuxConf

  • Select Users

  • Type your name and password as well as real name

  • Log out or switch session with the new account

On Linux (from Command Line):

  • Open a terminal

  • Type
    su
    and type your password

  • type
    adduser
and the name of the user

Having more of this Windows/Linux guides might be what many ex-windows users criying for.

here we go with OT

Mavs finally looked good on both ends but might hhave ben too late. With 2 min and 1 point they need momentum.
thought:21:59

why you want a 3 pointer

Mavs have been wanting to score a 3 pointer for a while. this has turned into an obsession which miight cost them the championship. Let see how that goes.

Missed game 5

Under a real brain error, I completely missed game 5. With a confusion on the channels and at nba.com, I missread the games to play. To make matters worst, my team lost.

And it seemed to be the best game someone far with an overtime. With a game winning point and a game losing error.

No-Mavs tonight

They got everything for a streak, but a dumb offense made the mavs loose bad on what it seemed to be a close 4th quarter. But nothing happened. Nice try, time to roll up the starter and plan for game 5.

I guess we will have a tight finals series after all. The way this is going the heat are confortable enough to win at home.
thought:21:43

Nice game but...

the game so far has been going with a lot of upbeat tempo. there has been less amount of turnovers. However the Heat has been a bit too much to be an on-the-line game. With less than 10 points we hope to see a good 4th quarter.

Heat are back

So they are back in the game and it seem we might see a 2-1 after all. Let see what happens as they are down by 1.04
thought:21:58

MAVS 3-0 :o

Wow I didn't believe it until now. It suck that the game was a good one but if this keeps going there would only be a sweep and very fast finals which is not that good for no one specially the fans that want to see more games rather than a complete sweep.

With the score 91-86 with 4 min to go I am expecting at least a good game closing.

Making a Checkbook in Base

Today I will start making a small app and use it with OOo BASE. With the new Base module making graphically appealing forms is possible making intuitive applcations. The best thing is that being an opensource proyect I want end users to dowload it and improve it.

This is a simple checkbook, the only mission is to capture the data into the base db, and the users can get a monthly report of the transactions. The key is to KISS and with time it will grow hopefully into other modules hopefully with scripting support.

We really hope making more justice in the way support could be achieved and use this for a better learning experience regarding the use of BASE and Forms.

Cooling the Heat

Blogging from the middle of the NBA finals. The Mavs just turn around the scoreboard for good as I have been reading the Finals Blog.

I think today Miami will be really into the game but they seem that they loose concentration on their defense or they get tired by the second half.

The game is good and it could be anyones game yet. We just hope the finals dont become a sweep. I really wish Zo could get more minutes. They do need the defemse this man can put.

First Linux Trainnig

Yesterday I conclude my first trainnig on Linux to a bunch of kids from the university. This made me reflect about a bunch of linux and new users. Linux is currently a great OS however a lot of people has no experience on this.

Many people are waiting on someone to take their hands to install linux on their computers. A few months ago the only option was using proprietary software such as Partition Magic. Now we got an alternative with Gparted.

The point is simple, do we have a site dedicated to the Linux Switch movement. To the process of switching, starting from miltimedia such as youtube videos podcasts and basically A HELPING HAND.

Linux Reality, the linux video station, and the getting started manual might pull up the trick.

Another thing that I found was the informatic generations across the age range. Programs like dIRC or mIRC, vlan and ICQ had long been forgoten. WinZip had vanished and the casual computer user had actually less computer knowledge than in the past. Yet antique and sometimes obsolete pltform such as turbo C and Pascal.

New technology such as Ruby on Rails, Python and Mono might been skip forward for more marketed technologies such as .Net and Java. However the lack of depth into this languages might do more right than wrong. Because they will get just the ins but not a level o afvance without more investment.

Will linux help the local university?
Will linux actually enhace the level of IT and transform the university?

My next trainning course will improve dramatically and i hope we can get this working asap. When you touch linux, don't wonder if linux touch you back.

NBA FINALS are here

If you don't know, I am a HUGE NBA fan and the new 2006 finals looks good. Even if I would had preffered Detroit vs. Mavs, I've seen Miami and beside Shaq and Pat, I like the way this team looks. I'm a Big Alonzo Mourning fan. I always like the way he blocks the heck out of the contenders.

Mavs on the flip side, I like Mark Cuban and his multinational squad. Mavs has the title of the worst team in the whole NBA history, but 8 years laters the Mavs look like a well balanced team. With good guards and tall forwards we have really seen a fast, powerful ofensive team.

I really expect a nice finals and exciting games, yet they are not as dramatic as the games during the Bulls times.

Free software is our Biocar

Today I was watching National geographic special on alternative energy such as bio-deisel, hydro fuel, vapor and solar engine. I've seen this development courage and energy devoted to somethg very similar-- the answer is free software.

A lot of people are willing to feel good while they drive, however the big companies seem to be the highest challenge seem to be the big corporations. With new revolutions looking for big players to jump in but with the needs regarding the desire to market them to people.

I hope the development and the players start marketing this position.

Welcome back drama

So my old pal drama has visit my relationship with my gf, this past months has been drama free and all joy and happiness to see each other between me and my gf. However on an extremely bizzare turn of events drama visit back on us and on a really strange way we got off to a long arguing about tears and blame on each other.

To make matter worst a stalker show up and start attempting on our relationship. With a very thought attack on separating us and disolving our relationship. What is funny is that I didnt got really mad, I got a bit upset but wasn't angry or just making a big deal out of the whole thing.

Maybe because my actual day was so nice until then and I really was hoping for the best. It did got me worry, specially at the point when I start to read all this intimate private stuff with my gf being posted and mocked by the stalker with his email and even showing me a pic of him about to kiss my gf.

The interesting thing which might be a good and bad part is that I think is our right to live our life right now and as long as we didnt cheat on our face i guess whatever we did when we were away was ok simply because my expectations has never really been too high that is easy to miss.

At the end I am just focus on one thing and this distraction really didnt move me in anyway. However, I don't know if I can't say the same for my gf, the criying and the overal mood was kind of depressing specially when I know we will be ok in the end. I really didn't want to feel her getting hurt and nor did I want this whole thing to become a bigger deal.

So nice play drama, you really save yourself for today, I really hope u leave us alone until maybe 8 months from now. I wish this was the end of drama and not the start of a streak, I think we will become more pressured as we move into the deadline and all documents have to be submited.

Right now I am only worry about the flight ticket and get everything in order to transfer the money. Untill then I really wish everything remains as cool as it has been until today.

Moving to Gnome

So I decided to move back to Gnome, after using KDE for quite a while I am glad to say that I like it. I don't however fall in love with it. Actually the feeling of being using a very windows like envieroment made me move back to Gnome and XFCE4. I will come back, and I will use KDE in the future but it wont be my primary desktop.

I am glad that the KDE people are really looking into integrating the web with the desktop and I hope this trend continues. I most admit that it was a pleasant ride.

Gtk just feels at home and going back to the Gnome desktop might be just what I need to get my productivity up. Hope to come back to KDE later and see a much mature desktop, right now I cant wait to see how mature has Gnome become since I left almost 8 months ago.
